Championship Manager 01/02 wonderkids still playing today

Let’s go back two decades for a moment – only a moment – and remember the time when we were all enjoying Championship Manager 01/02 for each and every single minute of the day that we had available (or unavailable if you were hooked like I was…).

Arguably, it was one of the best to have ever been produced and some would suggest that there are very few titles to have ever matched it. In fact, some still find that they are playing this version to this very day…

Anyway, fast-forward 20 years and it might be difficult to think that there are still players on that particular version of the game that are playing today. However, Planet Football managed to find six wonderkids that are still doing their thing on the pitch, albeit as individuals who are entering their 40s.

Now, whilst you might be thinking about using 365bet-taiwan.com to place a bet on them doing something in the next match that they play, it is worth noting who the six are and where they are currently playing before we potentially decide to look for the best wagers available.

So, without further ado, let’s take a look at the six individuals and see if you remember any of them…

  1. Roque Santa Cruz

Available at FC Bayern Munich at the time, many will remember his time in England at Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City. Shockingly, at the age of 40, he now plays football in Paraguay for Club Libertad.

A proven winner, and one of the most memorable players on this list for some.

2. Joaquin

Another 40-year-old to still be playing, Joaquin was another CM legend that just had to be bought as soon as physically possible! He would turn into one of the world’s best players and would be a real gem in any squad. He has since returned to Real Betis for a second spell and recently won the Copa del Rey.

3. Alexis Thebaux

Alexis Thebaux is one name that many may not remember, but if you played with Nantes and opted to promote him to the senior squad instead of going with the established Mickaël Landreau instead, then you would have found an exceptional ‘keeper waiting in the wings.

He is playing for Thonon Evian, after touring French football for a number of years. I’ll admit, I missed out on him as I chose Landreau far more often than I perhaps ought to have.

4. Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is still doing his thing as a 40-year-old for AC Milan, but we all know what he has managed to achieve, right? We’re not talking about the ego, either…

5. Alexander Farnerud

If you knew where to look in Swedish football, you might have been able to find Alexander Farnerud available at Landskrona. Sign him on CM 01/02, and you may have had one of the best midfielders the game ever saw.

At 38, he continues to play football, although he is playing in the lower leagues of Switzerland as he enters the twilight of his career, with FC Chiasso.

6. Andres Iniesta

Andres Iniesta is the final name on this list, with the former FC Barcelona legend playing for Vissel Kobe in Japan’s J-League, with the Spaniard currently the team’s captain.

Much like Ibrahimovic, we all know what the 38-year-old has managed to achieve in the sport, and trying to describe his achievements really would not do him any justice…
