The Premier League season 2017/18 has come to a close in Letou Choose with a dominant victory for Swansea City over West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns.
It’s been very rare that Swansea have conquered an opponent in the same manner that we brushed aside Mauricio Pochettino’s men. I think the last time was against Watford when we won 4 – 1 back in January, it certainly hasn’t happened in recent weeks. Even in the 5 – 3 win against Leicester there were some hairy moments.
Take a look at those stats, yes, we continued to concede possession but we had more shots on goal than an opponent – which as regular readers will know all too well is a rarity!
Despite going behind to an early Nacer Chadli goal, we rallied and showed a pleasing amount of character to first come back through Wilfried Bony, then Alfie Mawson scored a captain’s headed goal from a corner to give us the lead into half-time.
The second half saw the Swans flex their… muscles… wings? And Jordan Ayew did what Jordan Ayew does, scoring a goal. He profited from a good low cross from Tammy Abraham before Nathan Dyer provided another assist, his eighth since coming into the team in January, this time for Tom Carroll to cap off a fine season with a goal.
What this means for us that we finish eighth in the Premier League above West Ham United, who had a brilliant start to the season, and Southampton. We end the season just a point behind Tottenham Hotspur.
The big story going into the final day was the battle to avoid relegation between four teams. Crystal Palace, Burnley, Watford and Leicester City could all have gone down. Let’s see the results from yesterday including effectively a relegation play-off between Burnley and Leicester at the King Power Stadium.
All that means the following:
From tomorrow, we begin building up to the FA Cup Final and a date with Mark Hughes’ Stoke City.
