Bayer Leverkusen equalised to 1-1 early in the match when Moussa Diaby made his mark as he scored, with an assist by Jeremie Frimpong, in the 12th minute. The teams were unable to score in the second half and the game ended 1-1.
In the next round, Union take on Hoffenheim away at PreZero Arena on Sunday. Leverkusen play at home to Mönchengladbach on Saturday.
