Quique Setien suffers fate all Football Manager players have suffered

Quique Setien’s career at FC Barcelona was always likely to be coming to an end once the 2019/20 campaign came to a finish, however the 8-2 drubbing at the hands of Bayern Munich in the Champions League will have only soured things even more for the manager.

Reports had already emerged almost straight after the referee ended the Catalan’s nightmare on the pitch suggesting the club’s hierarchy had already put plans in motion to hand the Spaniard his P45 as a whole host of names have been mentioned as possible candidates to replace him.

Individuals such as Ronald Koeman, Patrick Kluivert and, of course, club legend Xavi have all had their names thrown into the mix, whilst former RCD Espanyol man Mauricio Pochettino has already had his name mentioned heavily as well. Picking the right man for the job, though, can prove to be a difficult task, as online casino players have found as well, although Online Casino Snoop has helped them out with all their needs emphatically.

It was widely believed that Setien was only ever a manager that would be brought in as a temporary fix following the decision to sack Ernesto Valverde at the beginning of 2020, however there would still have been an expectation that the club would lift something.

Playing the Football Manager game series, there would have been minimum expectations of winning La Liga, winning the Copa del Rey and perhaps reaching the final of the Champions League (as a bare minimum), with the ultimate aim of completing a Treble.

Losing out to the League title to Real Madrid will have only put the nail in his managerial coffin at FC Barcelona, but the humiliation suffered at the hands of the German giants in Europe’s elite competition will have been like someone adding salt to some very open wounds.

Setien, though, suffered the fate that all Football Manager players have ever faced when coming up against players who have previously played for the club that was being managed.

Although there may not be an element of truth in making this suggestion, there seems to be a thing within the game franchise where former players appear to take things up another level and just destroy you; whether it be in front of goal, defensively or just with their creativity and vision when on the ball.

So, in true fashion, it is not a surprise that Philippe Coutinho would haunt the employers who currently do not want him. The Bayern Munich playmaker, who arrived on loan and does not appear to be staying as Leroy Sane will take the number 10 shirt he had, came on late in the game but still managed to provide one assist and score twice.

Setien and the Brazilian will not be welcome in the city of Barcelona any time soon, you would imagine. I mean, I would 8-2 be a Barcelona fan right now. Hopefully they saved their game before playing the match, therefore we can restart it and play it again in the hope of achieving a better outcome!
