FM Predictions: Leeds to top the Pile in January

If Football Manager could be used as a reliable means to predict results, a great number of bookies would swiftly go out of business. However, while it’s nowhere near 100 percent accurate, the Sports Interactive game is pretty good at giving a general idea of what the future may hold. This year’s real-life Championship looks tighter than it has been in years but, according to Football Manager, Leeds United are set to keep top spot after the festive period.

Football Manager has become such a well-regarded and realistic game since its inception in 2004, that even real life coaches are using it as a guide for certain things. Indeed, Football Manager has long been used as a scouting tool for clubs who are looking to sign the next big name in football. The game has uncovered major gems in the past, due to its complex scouting network which has been in existence for over 25 years. It sends back detailed information to the development team who key in a whole range of different statistics to logically predict how a player may develop.

Football Manager has been accurate about a lot of stars, from Lionel Messi to Neymar Jr. But ask any Championship Manager player about Tonton Zola Moukoko and there is clear evidence that Sports Interactive don’t always get it right. When it comes to predicting the tables in real life, the game draws on a wide range of data available to make the most logical assumptions. However, we all know how the world of football is full of shocks and surprises. Even so, it is interesting to see that the game has decided that Leeds are set to keep Norwich at bay over the busy Christmas period.

In fact, now could be a good time to stake on Leeds making a long-awaited return to top flight action. The Elland Road outfit can be backed at 7/4 to win the division, and, with the form they are in, that is a sure bet for many. However, players who don’t want to risk their own funds could use a bonus. All the best bonuses for Brits reviewed show that online casinos and sportsbooks are willing to offer up to £1000 in bonuses to new customers.

Sky Sports used Football Manager to simulate every Championship game over the festive period, and it resulted in Leeds topping the table on 52 points in January. Norwich slipped slightly to second on 49. The Whites have been enjoying their best campaign in years under Marcelo Bielsa, but Leeds fans won’t be counting their chickens just yet – they know all too well how cruel football can be at times.

Of course, most Leeds fans who play FM already know what it’s like to be back in the Premier League and battling with the top six, week in, week out. They’ve been playing the likes of Barcelona in the Champions League again and wrapping their fingers around the handles of trophy after trophy. Unfortunately, in the real world, the road back to glory is much tougher.
