Leicester meet Liverpool on Thursday

There is a blockbuster at Anfield, come this Thursday night. Liverpool host Leicester City in what promises to be a great game of football.

It is also a homecoming for Brendan Rodgers, who managed the reds in the past. But now with the foxes, Rodgers will try to get a positive result for his side, as they are in a bit of a bother at the moment.

Previous year’s FA Cup winners, Leicester City are 10th on the premier league table. Although the foxes have a staggering 4 games in hand.

For Jürgen Klopp’s side, this game is also of vital importance as he looks to chase Manchester City down. Losing this game could potentially mean City establish a 12 points lead, provided they win their game against Brentford on Wednesday night.

Different missions for both sides, yet the same game.

It’s Liverpool vs Leicester!

History:

Liverpool and Leicester have met each other 97 times, Liverpool has won on 40 occasions, Leicester just behind on 35, and the spoils were shared 22 times.

The head-to-head on Anfield surprisingly is in the favor of the Foxes, who have won 24 times compared to Liverpool’s 15 victories.

In the last 5 matches that these two sides have met, both the sides have won twice and one game was a draw.

So, historically this promises to be a competitive contest!

Form:

Liverpool in their last 6 games (all competition) have won 5 times and the one negative result was a draw against Arsenal in the first leg of League Cup semi-finals.

Leicester on the other hand is not coming in on a hot form like their opponents, they have won only twice in their last 6 matches (all competition).

Trivia:

Liverpool has lost their last two Premier League games against Foxes, and the last time they lost three consecutive top-flight games against the Foxes was in November 1963.

Leicester City is aiming to complete the league double over Liverpool for the first time since the 1998-99 season under Martin O’Neill when they won at Anfield thanks to a late winner from Lan Marshall.

Against no side has Liverpool’s Jürgen Klopp lost more Premier League games than he has against Leicester (4 level with Man City) The Foxes are looking to become the first team since Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich vs Borussia Dortmund in 2014-15 to beat a Klopp side twice in a league season.

Prediction:

History suggests that Leicester has been good versus Liverpool at Anfield. However, Leicester is still finding its feet this season.

They are 10th on the table and this season has gone haywire, at least till now.

Liverpool on the other hand is in red hot form, and they haven’t lost the last 14 games which were played at Anfield.

Now with Sadio Mane and Mohammed Salah back from the AFCON, Liverpool is in full strength. To add to that their entire squad is fit and ready for selection.

Saying that no one should underestimate the Foxes. As history suggests, the former premier League champions perform the best when they are the underdogs.

This blockbuster might turn out to be a tight affair, but the odds are in favor of Liverpool.

Not to mention, Anfield’s magic is still alive and well!
